How to Self Study for the MCAT

The MCAT is a high stakes competition; every taker wants to do their best. A good portion will pay test-prep companies for MCAT courses that will teach them the material and test-taking method in hopes of getting the best score.

When I took the studied and prepared for the MCAT, I didn’t take a prep-course from TPR (The Princeton Review) or Kaplan. I studied on my own and… I did perfectly fine. With the right materials in hand, a proper system and discipline, you can do just as well on the MCAT by yourself.

Thank you for this. I’m doing self-study to study for the MCATs for next year and getting affirmation that one can do it is really helpful.

Good luck Devy. There are plenty who have gone before you, it’s definitely possible to self study and do well

Hello,

I would like to know how important it is to take the biochemistry class before taking mcat. I plan on taking mcat next semester and want to have maximum time for mcat prep but I am afraid that if I sign up for too many hard sciences then I won’t have as much time to study for the mcat. Is it worth taking the biochem class right before taking the mcat?

I didn’t take biochem before I took the MCAT. Most of the biochem on the MCAT is basic. My blog has moved to http://www.medaholic.com
